Building permits are required for all new construction and additions as well as for most alterations and renovations to existing structures. In most cases, a plan review of the proposed construction or renovation is required prior to issuance of a building permit. A plan review is necessary to ensure compliance with city regulations and does not circumvent architectural plan review requirements that may be placed upon homeowners by HOA regulations.
Plan review and permitting fees have been adopted by resolution of the City Council
and are contained within the schedule of fees
When uncertain about whether a permit is needed for planned work, contact city hall. Failure to obtain a permit prior to beginning work can result in enforcement action, including doubled permit fees and possibly a summons to appear in municipal court.
